Self defense is not a martial art. Self defense occurs anytime somebody uses combination of abilities, senses, intelligence and basic principles to avoid getting into a violent confrontation. YOU have already practiced self defense, by avoiding the dark alley one evening, locking your home doors at night, becoming alert when you hear raised voices.
