Paul "The British Ninja" McCarthy has been the Director of the Martial Arts Program at UCLA since 2009. He began his martial arts career in Lincoln, England, where he gained rank in Western Kickboxing and trained in various forms of martial arts casually. After moving to Indiana, he began training Hapkido, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Taekwondo. He received his Hapkido Black Belt in 2004 and was promoted to 4th degree in 2015, while also receiving a black belt in Taekwondo in 2006. While finishing his Masters Degrees at Indiana University he became an Assistant Instructor for Jeet Kune Do and Kali Escrima classes and is currently ranked as a Black Belt in Filipino Martial Arts and a Black 'ikut' in Indonesian Silat under Guro Dan Inosanto. He has been an  instructor under Guro Dan Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu, Jeet Kune Do and The Filipino Martial Arts since September 2012, is currently an Associate Instructor and continues further his knowledge under the guidance of Magulang Na Guro Dan Inosanto. Guro McCarthy believes that training in and opening your mind to multiple arts, whether combative or healing, is the true path in martial arts. He holds the highest respect for all martial arts and welcomes any style to the UCLA Martial Arts Program.
